Kim Slatter with Litia and two of her boys that Rob & I sponsor
I recently received an email from the Slatter family heading up the projects in Rukurukulevu Village and thought I would share with you.
We currently have 140 children who will be sponsored through primary & secondary schooling in 2012.
We have extended our assistance beyond Rukukulevu village to include nearby villages (Voua, Tore, Hanahana, Navuevu, Cuvu to name a few)
I have recently received 27 new sponsor children. Our contact in the village (Matilda) is in the process of taking photos of these children. She has already sent me their stories.
In the process of typing up their stories I was saddened to learn just how many had a parent/s that had passed away.
These children are very needy and we look forward to ensuring they can attend school in 2012.

If you know of any friends/contacts that may be interested in sponsoring a child's schooling please don't hesitate to contact me.
$45 - primary student for a year.
$65 - high school student for a year.
Upcoming visit.
* We will be visiting the village again the end of November/December and going into the schools to pay school fees, book lists and uniforms.
* We will be holding a Christmas party for the sponsor children with each child receiving a gift, (valued at approx $10).
Happy Feet Challenge - School Shoes for the children.
On May 1st this year (almost 5 months ago) I began a challenge to go 12 months without purchasing any clothing for myself. I figured I well & truly "have enough".
However many of the children in the village desperately need school shoes. With money saved & generous sponsors 60 pairs were purchased.
We are well aware this is an ongoing need & look forward to purchasing more in November/December at a cost of $10 a pair.
**** Thank you to 2 wonderful friends who have also joined the challenge of giving something up for 12 months and regularly donate their savings! Also thanks to regular sponsors of this project - appropriately named by my dear friend - HAPPY FEET!!!
LATEST NEWS.....................SEWING LESSONS HAVE BEGUN!!!
* Just last week (Wednesday 21st September) the first sewing class was held in Rukukulevu village.
A local lady from the village, Vasinai will be teaching 3 ladies - Vanessa (pictured top,far left), Kara and Alumeci.
Initially we had thought these would be for young girls who have recently left school but after lots of thought and discussion we have selected 3 women with families who are keen for the opportunity. They all have young children they need to support.
The classes will be held once a week for a full day 9am - 4pm.
Vasinai receives a wage for the classes.
The ladies will be making school uniforms and traditional dresses for the needy as part of their lessons.
* Thank you to those who have sponsored classes.
There is the opportunity to sponsor a lady (classes) or donate to materials. If you would like to request a new dress for your sponsor girl or mum - a donation of $15 for materials is a thoughtful gift.
Please Remember & Pray for:
* Matilda's daughter - Frances has been very unwell with a painful rash/infection on her legs. It leaves her in a great deal of pain unable to walk. She has not attended school for several weeks. Please pray for a correct prognosis and treatment for Frances.
(We have discovered it is very challenging to receive appropriate health treatment & care).
Thank you
Kim Slatter.
